As many of you are aware, the City of Hampton, in conjunction with the Fox Hill Athletic Association has been working to acquire an Urban Parks and Recreation Renovation grant to help upgrade the building on Grundland Drive at the old Nike site. We were unsuccessful with last year's round of funding; no projects received funding in the state of Virginia.
Some issues that may have contributed the project not receiving funding are: a lack of evidence of community support and the lack of a compelling need for the use of the building that would justify funds in the amount requested.
We have decided to rethink our approach to this project and are suggesting that thought be given to how we may address these factors. We are asking that you, as community members determine the degree of support and cooperation you can bring to bear on this project. City of Hampton staff will be working on uses for the building (beyond meetings, receptions and special events) that would enhance our ability to acquire grant money.
We hope that we can reconvene our meetings soon with renewed purpose and commitment to making this facility a jewel for Fox Hill and District 5.
Sincerely,
Art Thatcher, Superintendent, Parks and Recreation
Sydney Mason, Neighborhood Associate, Neighborhood Office
Bob Trahan, Community Facilitator, City of Hampton
